Hours
Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern. Same-day appointments are often available. The phone line is answered around the clock, because an arrest does not happen during business hours and the notice of claim clock does not pause for the weekend.

Languages
We speak English, Russian and Spanish in-house. We arrange live interpretation for other languages. Mikhail Usher personally speaks English, Russian and Spanish.

The office is in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, near the B and Q trains at Sheepshead Bay station and the B4, B36 and B49 buses. Tell us when you make the appointment if you need help with directions or with accessibility.
For criminal defense lawyers
If your client was arrested and the arrest itself looks bad, the civil claim has a clock that is probably shorter than the criminal case. Call and say so. We will protect the notice of claim without interfering with your case, and we will not take a statement from your client while the charge is pending without you.
Before you send anything by email
Do not email a description of the arrest, the officers' names, the criminal complaint, or any court documents until we have confirmed we can review your matter. Sending us information does not make you a client and does not make what you send privileged. An attorney-client relationship begins only when we and you sign a written retainer agreement. If a criminal charge is pending, talk to your defense lawyer first.
What to have ready when you call
- The date of the incident. It runs every deadline.
- Which agency was involved: the NYPD, another city or county police department, a jail, the State Police, ICE or another federal agency.
- Whether you were charged, and what the criminal court did with the charge: pending, dismissed, ACD, plea, conviction.
- Whether you were treated by a doctor or a hospital, and where.
- Whether you or anyone else recorded any part of it.
- The summary the deadline tool copied for you, if you ran it.
If you do not have some of this, call anyway. We can work most of it out on the phone.
Someone is in custody
If the person who was hurt is still in a precinct, at Rikers, in a county jail or in ICE detention, call rather than writing. Have the person's full legal name, date of birth, where they are held and when they were taken. Injuries in custody need medical documentation now, not after release.
